Last year during the Midwest Tea Festival I stumbled across one of the Kansas City area's best kept secrets: Anna Marie's Tea Shop. The shop is nestled away in Liberty, Missouri—a small suburb of Kansas City—and carries a wide variety of flavored teas. Flavored teas aren't always enough to make me sit up and take notice of a new-to-me shop, but I had the opportunity to sample a number of their offerings and was immediately struck by how similar they tasted to the teas that were offered by Della Terra before they went out of business almost two years ago. If you've been looking for a company to fill the void that Della Terra left behind then you'll want to check this shop out immediately, especially if you're missing old favorites like Lemon Chiffon or Pineapple Upside Down Cake Black Tea. Anna Marie's even offers sample sizes for those of you who are like me and must try all of the teas.
After my startling discovery that I would no longer be without some of my favorite teas I immediately sat down and ordered a ton of samples to try out. It was fun rediscovering some of my old favorites, I had forgotten what a great dessert tea Pineapple Upside Down Cake was, but the discovery that Lemon Souffle from Anna Marie's and Lemon Chiffon from Della Terra were in fact the same tea left me ecstatic. This is one of four teas I actually order by the pound, but the funny thing is that the first few times I tried it I completely dismissed it as something that would never be a favorite of mine. Fortunately I didn't let my dislike of both lemon and rooibos turn me away from this wonderful tea. It's always reminded me of lemon sandwich cookies—sweet, yet tart with a subtle hint of cream—it's the perfect after dinner treat. If you're looking for a great late night or caffeine free option then I highly recommend this one, it's easily one of my top 5 favorite teas.
Would I order this again? Absolutely! I'm really excited to finally find a replacement for my favorite lemon rooibos.
