Earlier this month I spent a day visiting the Midwest Tea Festival in Kansas City (you can read all about it here.) It was a blast, I only wish I had been able to spend the entire day (and meet up with some of my buddies from Steepster later on for the after party.) Alas, it's a long drive back to St. Louis where I was spending the night and an even longer drive back to Wisconsin, so I headed out early, missing the last few presentations.
My last stop before leaving was with Denise, from Herbal Alchemy. Earlier in the month she had sent me several samples and I wanted to let her know how much I loved her Throat Soother Tea. It may not have been the most pleasant tasting tea in the world (horehound is terribly bitter,) but the combination of ingredients was perfect for relieving some of the allergy symptoms that had been plaguing me all month. They only seemed to get worse the farther South I travelled, so I'm glad I packed it in my suitcase.
I finally made it home, only to turn around and head back to St. Louis a few days later. This time of year I have a crazy travel schedule, but my son and I have enjoyed the ride. Well, with the exception of the fact that my 6 hour trip to St. Louis took nearly 9 hours (I'm pretty sure that's a record.) I-39 resembled the Walmart parking lot on Black Friday, complete with crazy pissed off people yelling at each other. It was a mess, but at least I had a few hours to work on my tan while parked on the interstate. By the time I rolled into town I was no longer sporting my pasty white Wisconsin complexion.
There is a bright side to everything!
With the sheer amount of craziness I faced during this trip I was incredibly glad I had packed another of Denise's herbal blends, Sweet Memories. It's a combination of green tea and chamomile, with the barest hint of hibiscus. I normally avoid teas with hibiscus because they tend to be needlessly tart, but this is a great example of hibiscus done right. The slight tartness it adds is a perfect balance to the sweetness of the peach. With just a touch of ginger and cinnamon to spice up the blend it ends up reminding me of peach pie in a teacup— in other words, it's absolutely delicious.
My Rating: 85/100
Would I order this again? Yes. Did I mention that this tastes like peach pie in a cup? I could drink a lot of this!
I am in no way affiliated with The Midwest Tea Festival, it's just a really cool event I'd like to see succeed. Upon my request I have been provided with a press pass for the event, admission for one guest, and samples from several of the vendors (including Herbal Alchemy.)
