I always have been a bit of a chocolate addict, so it seemed like a natural progression to seek out a chocolate dessert tea to enjoy after dinner. I love having sweet treats on hand for a mid-evening pick-me-up, but what I discovered was that most of the chocolate teas I sampled tasted horrible. They were a huge disappointment, so eventually I gave up on my effort to find something that combined two of my greatest loves. I can't quite remember why I tossed the Chocolate Lover's Sampler, but it's a decision I certainly don't regret. Today's tea Chocolate Cherry Latte Oolong from A Quarter to Tea is absolutely fabulous.
There really aren't enough words to convey how much I love this tea—it's everything I ever wanted out of a chocolate tea and then some. The combination of quilan oolong, hojicha, and chicory is brilliant—it gives the tea a nice roasted flavor with a tinge of bitterness on the back of the tongue, just like good quality dark chocolate. It really hits all of the right notes for me and then comes the sweet cherry flavor. This tea reminds me of the chocolate covered cherries my grandma bought every Christmas throughout my childhood. I have such fond memories of them and it was always such a treat when she would share a bite with us. Those cordial cherries from Queen Anne were her favorite (and I wouldn't have blamed her if she had decided to hoard the entire box, those things are delicious.) This is hands down the most realistically flavored chocolate tea I've come across.
Would I order this again? Absolutely! If you like chocolate covered cherries go buy this tea now. It truly does taste like the real thing.
Roasty enough to appease the coffee lover in you! The blend of hojicha and oolong makes a robust, coffee like base without the jitters. Mellowed out with chicory, chocolate, and cherries. What could be a better start to the morning?
