I decided that my husband and I needed a short break, so this past weekend we loaded up the car and made the two hour drive in to Chicago to celebrate our 7th anniversary a little early. It's been a few years since I've stayed in the city, usually I'm there for work (with very little opportunity to play), so it was nice to play tourist for the weekend and show my husband and son the sights. We stayed within walking distance of Museum Campus and since it was a beautiful day, took the 20 minute walk over to see Shedd Aquarium then Cloud Gate at Millennium Park.
After six hours out and about we finally decided to meander our way back to the hotel, taking a long walk down Michigan Ave then eventually Dearborn Street where we passed an Argo Tea. I've never been in Argo before, but from the outside it looks like my kind of place. I decided to resist the temptation to stop in; I knew if I did I would walk out with more tea than I could possibly drink in a year. I don't know how to stop at one cup, I want to try all the tea. It's a bit of a sickness really.
The good news is that even though I didn't stop in I didn't miss out on some great tea. I had several packages from Argo waiting at home, sent to me this past Christmas by an artist I worked with on a collaborative project. He just happened to remember how much I love Earl Grey (probably because I was guzzling it down by the gallon the entire three months we worked together. I keeps me away better than coffee ever could.)
As soon as we got home from our trip I made myself a huge mug of tea and took a moment to enjoy the aroma wafting from my cup— this blend smells nearly as heavenly as it tastes. The bergamot comes through the strongest, with a good dose of vanilla to temper the flavor and prevent any of the harsher notes that are sometimes found in an Earl Grey. This is one of the smoothest tasting Earl Grey teas I've had the pleasure to drink (and I've sampled a lot of Earl Grey over the years, it is my favorite after all.) I did taste more flavoring than tea, but that might be a plus if you aren't normally a fan of black tea.
My Rating: 89/100
Would I order this again? Absolutely! I loved the balance between bergamot and vanilla, I could drink a lot of this tea.
