After my whirlwind trip to St. Louis this past weekend I was ready to head back home and relax. I love seeing friends and family, but these short weekend trips are the hardest. I never feel like I get to spend enough time with the people I manage to visit with. It seems like as soon as we settle in somewhere it’s time to rush off to the next place. This fast pace makes it very difficult to relax and by the time I return home I'm absolutely exhausted.
When we got home Sunday night I was ready for a cup of hot tea and a good book, then an early bedtime. I spent a few minutes digging through my stash of tea looking for my favorite Earl Grey, only to realize I’m out again. What I found instead was Earl Grey De La Créme from Tiesta Tea. I’ve been curious about this company for quite some time now. They’re one of the few loose leaf teas I see on our grocery store shelves and I’m always tempted to grab a bag. It’s nice to know that if I ever run out of loose leaf tea I have a variety of options I can find locally. There was a time where my only local options were bagged teas, so I'm happy the landscape is slowly changing.
As for the flavor, I find that it's pleasant mix of bergamot and vanilla over a pretty standard black base. I feel like the black base could be a bit stronger. I don't find it unpleasant, but it isn't nearly as bold as I prefer my Earl Grey. On the plus side, the more subdued flavor doesn't leave me with a case of dry-mouth like some of the other Earl Grey teas I've sampled. This tea strikes a nice balance, with the vanilla being the strongest of the flavors. Overall, it's a very enjoyable cup of tea and just what I needed after a long trip.
My Rating: 80/100
Would I order this again? Yes. A very nice cup of tea indeed. It also gets bonus points for being available on store shelves, at a reasonable price.
