When it comes to tea I tend to get caught up in the search for my next new favorite. I forget about my old standbys, sometimes going for months without drinking my favorite teas, only pulling them out for special occasions. I can't put my finger on why I do this, there's no reason why I can't drink my favorite tea every day. Yet, time and time again I find myself being lured in by fancy flavor combinations and cool looking packaging.
This is how I ended up spending the better part of last week drinking a banana split flavored yerba maté. It was different, that's for sure, but it left me wondering why I wasted a week drinking something I didn't love. To ensure that wouldn't happen this week, I pulled out the tin of Jasmine Pearls the Persimmon Tree sent me last month. It was one of the first teas I ordered from them when I discovered their company and it quickly became a favorite.
These pearls really stand out from other jasmine teas because the flavor is subtle, not in-your-face floral. They're nicely balanced with a sweet honeysuckle flavor and a hint of jasmine that becomes stronger the more times you steep the tea. Because the pearls aren't as heavily scented as other jasmine teas they don't have the strong soapy flavor I seem to run into time and time again. There is nothing I hate more than a tea that reminds me of soap, or worse yet, potpourri. If I happen to be in the mood for something stronger I can always add additional pearls for a flavor that better suits my mood.
My Rating: 87/100
Would I order this again? Yes. This tea frequently finds itself in my tea cabinet, especially in the summer months. It makes an exceptional iced tea.
In an effort to be open with my readers I want to let you know that The Persimmon Tree Tea Company has provided me with tea for review. As always, all opinions are my own.
