By now you guys know that I travel a lot, but what you may not know is that I don't take loose leaf tea with me when I'm on-the-go. I'm very squarely in the teabag camp when I travel because they're much more convenient. I don't have to worry about carrying extra devices for measuring and steeping my tea, plus they're much easier to dispose of (added bonus: I don't have to call the front desk of the hotel and explain why I've managed to back up the sink in my room, twice. Not that I would ever let that happen...)
If you're under the impression that teabags aren't as high quality as loose leaf, then you'd be wrong, they've definitely come a long way in the past few years. Today we're going to take a look at Pomegranate Mojito Green Tea from Zest Tea. They were kind enough to provide this tea at a discount to help facilitate this review, but I've had my eye on their product since they won an award at the 2015 World Tea Expo in the Best New Product category.
With the holiday season about to start I thought that this would be the perfect time to share this tea. We could all use a little boost this time of year and these bags pack a real caffeine-fueled punch. They contain a whopping 140mg of caffeine per bag, so if you're sensitive to caffeine you may want to proceed with caution. I found that consuming this tea on an empty stomach left me just as jittery as a cup of coffee, but the effects weren't as noticeable if I had eaten recently. I wish I had discovered these last month during October Unprocessed, they might have kept me from falling off the wagon after the first week of the challenge when I tried to give up my weekly coffee at Starbucks.
As for the flavor, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. The dominant flavors are peppermint and lime, and I'll be honest, I was looking for more flavor from the pomegranate—I could hardly taste it. Pomegranate lovers everywhere may find this disappointing, but for you peppermint lovers out there I think you'll really enjoy this tea, especially if you're as horribly addicted to caffeine as I am.
My Rating: 75/100
Would I order this again? Not this flavor, but I'd love to try their Earl Grey next. I think a highly caffeinated EG and I would get along famously.
