There are a number of regions in India that produce quality teas, but like many people I am more familiar with those from Darjeeling. Since my knowledge of teas from other regions is somewhat limited I decided to branch out a bit when Golden Tips offered to send me samples—I selected a green tea from the Nilgiri region.
Today's tea, Avaata Supreme Nilgiri Green Tea from Golden Tips is quite different from the green teas from Japan and China that I am more accustomed to. The dry leaves are long and only partial rolled with a fluffy appearance that more closely resembles a white tea. The flavor is noticeably difference as well. Green teas from China and Japan typically have a stronger flavor, while this tea is delicate with a sweet finish. The individual flavors are barely discernible, but there are hints of fruit and flowers. If you enjoy your tea mild and easy to drink then you'll find this very enjoyable, but if you're looking for something resembling a traditional green tea you may want to look elsewhere.
My Rating: 75/100
Would I order this again? Probably not. The flavor of this tea was too mild for my tastes.
An exquisite green tea from the coveted organic Avaata Tea Estate in the Nilgiris in southern India. The perfectly manufactured leaves boast of a light green texture combined with opulent long silver tips. The liquor has a very pale green appearance in the cup. The flavour is extremely smooth and fairly sharp typical of non-fermented green teas but without any hint of bitterness. A sensation of fruits and flowers flush your mouth with every sip of this certified organic green tea.
