The weather in Wisconsin may resembles spring more than summer right now, but it's finally here and I couldn't be happier. There are so many things I love about this time of year. The weather is warm, there is an abundance of fresh fruit to enjoy, and the summer seasonal teas are finally out. When I saw that Fusion Teas offered a watermelon tea I was curious if it could possibly live up to my expectations. I tend to avoid watermelon teas because they come off tasting like candy, super sweet and artificially flavored. I'll admit that I didn't have high hopes for this blend, but it left me pleasantly surprised.
Before I iced this down I decided to try a few sips of it hot. I have to say that this is one tea that is definitely better suited to iced tea. When served hot the tartness from the lime takes over completely and obscures the other flavors. Once I had put it in the refrigerator to chill for several hours it became a whole new tea, the flavors blossomed into the perfect balance of sweet and tart. I was amazed by how much this resembled a fresh juicy watermelon. The flavor isn’t a perfect match, but this is the closest to authentic I've come across yet. I may have started out doubtful, but in the end this is a really nice summertime tea.
My Rating: 79/100
Would I order this again? Possibly. While I enjoyed this blend it is a lot more sweet than I usually prefer my tea. I might consider picking it up again for next summer, but it won't be a staple in my cupboard.
