I'm running a bit behind today and if you saw my post earlier then you know it's because a tornado blew through the Madison area very early this morning. Early morning tornados tend to have more casualties because so many people are still asleep in their beds, but fortunately my iPhone's warning scared me half to death (and woke me up in the process.) We rushed downstairs and waited for the danger to pass. This early morning wakeup has left me dragging the rest of the day, it should come as no surprise, but I had a hard time falling asleep after all the commotion. It's nothing a few cups of tea couldn't help with, but even so, I'm finding it difficult to concentrate on my work today. I hope you can forgive my late post.
The second tea I'm reviewing today from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company is Bao Zhong, an oolong tea. It has been some time since I've found myself reaching for an oolong. During the spring months I tend to enjoy the wide variety of fresh spring green teas to hit the market. However, spring is almost over and as summer approaches I find myself craving the slightly sweet taste found in many varieties of oolong. This particular tea has a flavor that is full of depth. It starts out with a subtle vegetal flavor which more closely resembles a green tea before the delicate floral flavor blossoms. It has slight sweetness to it that reminds me somewhat of a well ripened piece of fruit, although I'm having trouble deciding just which variety it most closely resembles. When making iced tea it's natural sweetness means you won't need to add additional sweeteners to it, keeping your healthy beverage just that, healthy. Oh, and did I mention that this tea is organic too?
My Rating: 82/100
Would I order this again?Yes. I've rarely come across an oolong I didn't enjoy, but this particular tea is something special. It makes a particularly nice ice tea to enjoy during the hot days of summer.
In an effort to be open with my readers I want to let you know that The Persimmon Tree Tea Company has provided me with two tins of tea for review. As always, all opinions are my own.
