Ingredients: Cane Sugar, Matcha Green Tea, Xanthan Gum, Tapioca Dextrose, and Natural Flavor
Leaf Type: Matcha (flavored)
Where to Purchase: Red Leaf Tea
Suggested Brewing Tips:
Serving Size: 1 scoop or 12g per 8oz serving
Large bags come with a complementary pre-measured latte scoop. I have found that a level scoop is closer to 15g, which is slightly more than you need for an 8oz serving.
Cold Latte: Pour 6oz of milk into the blender, add a few ice cubes, and 1 scoop (12g) of MATCHAccino mix. Blend until smooth.
Hot Latte: Mix 1 scoop (12g) of MATCHAccino mix with warm milk. Please note that very hot can "burn" green tea and make it a bit bitter as well as lower the natural flavor intensity.
My Method: Using a magic bullet or blender, combine 8 ounces of 2% milk and slightly less than 1 scoop of MATCHAccino mix (about 12g). Blend until froth forms at the top and serve immediately.
I know St. Patrick’s Day was yesterday, so I’m a little late to the party with this review, but I still wanted to share it with you. I’ll be enjoying my Irish Cream MATCHAccino the rest of the week with my leftover corned beef, it just so happens that I made extra so I could enjoy trying out a few recipes that have caught my eye. Later in the week I’ll be sharing ideas of what you can do with your leftovers as part of our what to do with the leftovers series, so make sure you check back.
I’ve reviewed several flavors of MATCHAccino from Red Leaf Tea, I became a bit of an addict when I was sent a free sample of their caramel flavor for review and since then I’ve been ordering some of the custom flavors that tie in with the different holidays. Before I get into my review I’ll explain a little bit about the ordering process from Red Leaf since I’m sure many of you haven’t ordered from them. When you order MATCHAccino you have the ability to customize your order by changing the matcha quality, matcha amount, and flavor amount (as well as a few other items.) If you’re ordering the small size MATCHAccino like I do, those amounts are preset at basic grade matcha, standard matcha amount, and delicate flavor; you can not change them unless you order a large package. Most of the time I’m satisfied with these preset choices, but in the case of the Irish Cream flavor I’ll be reviewing today I felt that it would benefit from more flavoring. So far this has been my least favorite flavor, while I would drink it again if it were offered to me, I doubt I’ll reorder it again. As much as I want to try a more distinctive flavor level I’m not sure if I want to purchase a large package to do so.
I made this the same way I do all of my MATCHAccino, using a magic bullet, 2% milk, and a scoop of MATCHAccino mix. It can be prepared hot or cold, but I make it cold out of morning laziness, I just don’t want to spend the extra time heating up the milk. It’s a well established fact that I’m not a morning person and this week I’m fighting off a case of what I have dubbed the baby plague (my son drags home some of the worst colds I’ve ever seen!) Just a few seconds in the magic bullet and the milk froths up beautifully and I have an ice cold latte to enjoy with minimal amount of cleanup. The Irish cream flavor is sweet and creamy, but I could really taste the matcha this time and the vegetal flavors obscure the Irish cream. This was a little disappointing, but still a pretty tasty morning treat.
In other news, I just placed a huge order with Red Leaf Tea so I now have 4 more flavors of MATCHAccino and 2 flavors of matcha to share with you.
Would I order this again? Probably Not. I think it needs more Irish cream flavor and I don't enjoy it enough to order a large package.
