I should have loved this tea. Rooibos, Honeybush and Rose... these are a few of my favorite things. Sadly I didn't, in fact, I actually had a very negative experience with the tea which I feel isn't just a matter of my tastes, but a fault with the tea itself. While some floral teas lean towards the delicate side and really showcase the ingredients I think this particular tea takes its floral nature to the extreme. Personally, I felt it tasted like potpourri which was incredibly disappointing because floral teas tend to be among my favorites. On the plus side, it does resteep well and I was able to make three cups of tea from one serving of leaf. However, even the third steep was undrinkable, the rose flavoring was still overpowering.
Now would be a great time to talk about Simple Loose Leaf and their 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you receive a tea that you don't love, they will work with you to make it right.

I also think this might be a good opportunity to give you a little insight into my methods when writing a review, just so you don't think I wrote this tea off after only one cup. In fact, I won't even review a tea that has been sent to me unless the sample is large enough for me to have at least three cups of tea to sample. I actually prefer to have much more than that because sometimes it takes me awhile to dissect the individual flavors of a more complex tea. There are also the occasions where I just can't make a good cup of tea to save my life. We all have those days occasionally, don't we?
For this particular tea, Simple Loose Leaf sent me 4oz packaged in 2oz increments, as part of my subscription service. I used just under half of that trying different steeping parameters in order to find my perfect cup of tea. Yup, I drank 2oz of this tea before I sat down to write my review. That's a lot of tea to drink.
Ultimately the most drinkable cup I was able to produce with this leaf came about by accident. I somehow managed to misread the temperature on my hot water pot and steeped my final cup 195°F for 1m30s which is well outside the steeping guidelines I was provided. I still found it to be overly floral and not entirely appealing, but I was finally able to taste some of the sweetness from the honeybush base. Perhaps this tea has more potential with lower temperatures, but it will have to wait awhile before I find out. I still have 2oz remaining of this blend, so I'll save that as a project for a rainy day.

My Rating: 19/100
Would I order this again? No. In fact, I ended up dumping out a number of cups of this tea out as I tried different steeping parameters.
In an effort to be open with my readers I want to let you know that Simple Loose Leaf has provided me with a $50 credit to use towards their subscription service. It did not cover the cost of everything and I paid $9.54 out of pocket. As always, all opinions are my own.
