The dry tea of this Strawberry Oolong Tea has strong sweet strawberry fragrance. By mixing natural extractives from strawberry with Oolong Tea, this tea tastes sweet-sour as well as smooth and mellow. The brisk and fresh feeling of this tea makes it suitable for summer drinking.
Talking about the making of this Strawberry Oolong Tea, the natural extractives from strawberry are added after the Oolong tea is made, in order to keep the original flavor of Oolong tea, and ensure that both the strawberry fragrance and Oolong tea’s unique flavor can be tasted. The Oolong tea leaves of this tea is picked and produced in traditional methods. After the Oolong tea leaves are shaped, the strawberry extractives are then added.
You can smell the sweet strawberry fragrance as soon as you unseal the bag of the tea. The strong fragrance will also be sensed during the steeping. Try this fruit flavored Oolong tea; you will taste a very different flavored Oolong fragrance.

TeaVivre does not currently provide brewing instructions for this tea using a Gaiwan. You may also have noticed that my instructions are different than what is provided on the website. The instructions above are from the sample package I was sent and those were the guidelines I used for my review.
First off, I would like to thank Angel at TeaVivre for sending me these samples. Yet again, she was incredibly generous in the amount of tea she sent. I only wish I would have been able to review them sooner, but my seasonal allergies just weren't cooperating with me this time. I decided to save these until I had my sense of taste back in full and could really enjoy reviewing these teas. Incidentally, I made a lot of progress drinking down the teas I haven't really cared for. I tend to finish those off when I can't taste anything.
Just a quick reminder that TeaVivre provides several different methods for brewing their teas, these instructions are available on their website as well as above. Just a word of advice, you will have much more accurate results using a kitchen scale to measure out the weight of the tea (in grams) than you would using a teaspoon. Typically I prepare my tea western style in a ceramic tea pot. For this review I used 7 grams of tea, prepared 3 steeps at 1m, 2m, and 3m.
I remember receiving an email when TeaVivre released this tea and was quite intrigued by this addition to their line-up. While I don't normally drink a lot of flavored oolongs, I am a huge fan of strawberries, especially during the summer (which was when I requested this sample.) I'm not sure what it is about strawberry that makes it such a difficult flavor to reproduce in tea, but so many of them end up tasting like artificially flavored bubble gum. They just lack the sweet and tart flavors that are necessary in creating a convincing strawberry flavor.
I was immediately impressed with this tea the second I opened my package and got a good whiff of the sweet-tart scent of strawberries. This is one of those teas that I could stand there sniffing half the day with a goofy smile on my face. Thankfully I was home by myself and I could indulge in this without anyone questioning what I was doing and why I looked so goofy doing it. The first sip of the brewed tea left me with an equally goofy look as the taste of fresh strawberries exploded on my tongue backed up by the floral notes of the oolong. There is an absolutely perfect balance between the flavors in this steep.
On my second steep of this tea the floral flavors from the oolong became more pronounced, although I could still taste the sweet-tart flavors of the strawberry. I love the subtle sweetness the oolong adds to the strawberry. My final steep produced a cup that had a much more subtle strawberry flavor than the previous steeps, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable.
While I normally prefer to drink oolong hot, I do think this tea would be excellent iced and I can see this becoming part of my summertime rotation. I just wish I had more so I could try out a cold steep and see how it turned out.
Would I order this again? Yes. Strawberry is an incredibly difficult flavor to include in a tea and TeaVivre has done a wonderful job. This was one of the most realistic strawberry flavored teas that I've come across.
In an effort to be open with my readers I want to let you know that this sample was provided to me free of charge by TeaVivre for my review. As always, all opinions are my own. If you are a company and would like to send me an item for review feel free to drop me an email.
