If you want my take on disclosure, I think it's incredibly important. I feel that it lends more credibility to myself as a blogger when I make sure every reader clearly understands when I have received some form of compensation and that my opinion is not swayed by this compensation. This kind of transparency on the internet is not a bad thing and these requirements for bloggers, while not foolproof, are certainly a step in the right direction.
The Facts About Disclosure:
In the US, it is required by the FTC to disclose any material connections (defined by the FTC as "payments, services, or free products") between myself, marketers, and advertisers. To be in compliance with the FTC ruling regarding material connections here is my full disclosure policy. Keep in mind this information is subject to change as this blog grows, but I will keep it updated.
Through my work with word-of-mouth marketing sites such as BzzAgent and Simley360 I was made aware of the changes made by the FTC to improve disclosure amongst bloggers. The FTC has updated disclosure requirements in March 2013 and spelled out the new requirements more clearly than when they were originally written in 2009. The update also included a huge change that disclosures must now be made in all media, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram, and that all disclosures must be "clear and conspicuous". In my case, I tend to use #gotitfree or #sponsored for any item I have received for review and have posted anywhere other than this blog.
Review and Advertising Policy:
I do accept products for review and do my best to disclose within the post if I have been provided with a free sample or item for review. Even though I am compensated for some posts, all opinions provided are my own and I will always give my honest opinion about these products. If you are a company and would like to send me an item for review please contact me via email. Posts in the comment section or on social media are easily missed so please do not use these methods to contact me.
I will be happy to consider your product for review, but please keep in mind that I often write my posts in advance because I travel frequently. I will do my best to review your tea or product in a timely manner. If you would like your review to coincide with a product launch or something of that nature please let me know and I will do my best to work with you.
I do accept several forms of paid advertising on this blog, you can't miss the advertising located on the right side of the page. Purchases made through the links in my posts provide me with a small income so I can continue to provide you with quality content. I try to keep advertising unobtrusive and to a minimum in order to provide you with the best experience possible.
We've been fortunate enough to have several sponsorships this year. We use #sponsored in the title of these posts to make it clear when we are working with a sponsor, unless there is a specific hashtag we've been asked to use for the post. Most recently we've worked with Chocoley, OXO, and Red Leaf Tea. We love to work with brands, please contact me via email if you are interested in working together.
We haven't had a giveaway yet, but we're open to the idea of having one. If you're a company interested in working with us please send us an email.
Have I covered everything you wanted to know? If not, feel free to send us an email. We do our best to respond to all inquiries within 72 hours.
